The King of Spring T-Shirt
There is no adrenaline rush quite like having a big tom put on a show in full strut right in front of you. This old tom was harvested by Sam in Spring of 2023 in Nebraska.
We spent some long mornings and evenings pushing our luck running and gunning some stubborn birds. We spent one long evening in a stalemate with this bird in an open field. He came out of the woods about 200 yards away; & when he started strutting our we thought it was going to be picture perfect.
This old bird strutted his way towards us only slowing down to gobble until he hung up about 80 yards away where he stood in full strut - as the King of Spring, he was sure his hens should put the effort in to come to him. As the sun went down and he returned to his roost, the old bird won that battle.
The next morning, we set up on the field near his roost. He was fired up all morning - cutting us off when we called, double-gobbling, even triple-gobbling... we knew it was a matter of time before we should have him lined up on the bead... The moment we heard him shut up, we looked to our left to see him strutting out of the woods accompanied by two jakes & two hens. The moment he saw our jake decoy, it was game on.
He let out one last angry gobble as if it was his war cry as he sprinted towards our decoys. Sam couldn't wait any longer... BOOM! This old bird put on a show, and we are proud to have him on our Turkey Drop for 2024 - The King of Spring.
